About

The Oxford University European Affairs Society (OUEAS) is Oxford’s hub for all things European. Whether it’s debates about the hot topics, or an appreciation of European food and drink, the OUEAS provides for all students with an interest in this diverse corner of the world. Naturally, this also makes us one of the largest student societies here, regularly delivering termcards packed full of exciting and inspiring events.

Established in Hilary 1991 under the aegis of Prof Pulzer and Lord Wallace, the OUEAS quickly achieved the reputation it now has as a home for non-partisan discussion of European affairs; one regularly reinforced through panel discussions and seminars on a wide-ranging set of topics. Our speakers are distinguished both by their calibre and their reach, from NATO Generals to World Chess Champions, from all four corners of Europe, sometimes beyond. All have delivered events that educated and inspired the members who attended.

Alongside these, of course, are our socials, from the termly Cocktails d’Or and the annual gala ball, as well as nights out to local European restaurants, ensuring that students get ample opportunities to let their hair down and relax after the gruelling schedule of term-time.

This mix of serious discussion and cultural exploration is what makes the OUEAS unique in Oxford. If you wish to know more about the society and its events, please contact president@oueas.net. We also have a LinkedIn profile and a Facebook page so that you can keep abreast of our events this term.
